Sherry Turkle points out how our digital footprint is one we can edit to be whom we want it to be; how young people are losing the ability to connect on a human level because they don’t know of a life without the technology; and then discusses the consequences.
This TED talk is well worth listening to because what Sherry says raises the question: If we’re marketing to people’s digital personas then how connected are they to the personal reality and value systems they seem to have? How do you know if you really are marketing the right content in a format your prospects will engage positively with?
Her answer is we need to speak to real people and add their thoughts and feelings to the equation – or in other words study our audience psychographics to build a full persona.
